A must-do activity in Mexico is to try an exquisite margarita in the municipality of Tequila, in the state of Jalisco. Although the margarita was not invented in this magical town, it is where the delicious distillate that accompanies it, Tequila, is produced.
It is true that having a good tequila is the key to a delicious margarita, as well as the skill of the bartender who prepares it; this being the mix of actions that will result in an unforgettable margarita. Just as it was for Margarita Henkel, when she discovered that a cocktail had been created in her honour.
Before we continue, there is no official story about how the margarita was created, there are numerous legends, however, what is certain is that this cocktail was born somewhere in the state of Baja California.
The most credible story takes place at the Hussong Cantina in Ensenada. According to the story, one night, a bartender named Carlos Orozco was experimenting with new cocktails, when suddenly, a young woman of singular beauty caught his eye.
Then, completely unaware of where she came from, he approached her and asked, "Would you like to try a drink of my creation? - . To which she replied yes.
After marvelling at its refreshing taste, she asked Orozco about the name of the original drink, answering with another question - "What is your name? - . Unbeknownst to him, it was none other than Margarita Henkel, the daughter of the German ambassador in Mexico.
At that moment, the bartender announced to the bar that his new drink would share the name of the ambassador's daughter.
